When building and editing EDMs you will see merge tags in curly braces like #{{event_name}}, #{{guest_block}} etc.
Merge tags pull through data from the Event and Guests in the system when you are sending. They allow templates to be re-used across multiple events and allow you to personalise your EDM to include guest names - for example.
The question to ask is whether you are building your template/s for a one off event, or if you are planning to re-use your template for multiple events.
If your template is for a one off event: you can “hard code” everything about the event as text. Any text you want to include about the event can be typed directly into your template. Please note, the guest merge tags (i.e. guest_block), and any logic statements would still be included.
For example, you might type in "Entry via gate 5", or "Gates open at 4pm", and instead of using things like #{{event_name}} #{{event_dates}} #{{event_timings}}, you can type the event name, date and timings directly into your template.
If you are re-using your template for multiple events: that's when you would need to include event merge tags.
For example, you would use merge tags like #{{event_name}} #{{event_dates}} #{{event_timings}} to pull through the event data from the event you're sending in. There are many event merge tags that can be used.
Yes, if you have a template already setup with merge tags such as #{{event_name}}, #{{event_time}} etc, and you just want to add one line to the template, you can just type into the template.
Have a look through the list of merge tags first, and if you can't find what you're looking for, ask us via the support chat, we may be able to point you in the right direction.
The options page in settings now shows the tag name in each field.
